Tesla owners in the US and Canada are in for a treat as the company announced a significant price reduction for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. The feature now stands at $8,000 in the US and $11,000 in Canada, a substantial drop from its previous $12,000 and $16,000 CAD price tags.

The move comes after Tesla decided to discontinue the Enhanced Autopilot option, which was set at $6,000. However, customers who previously purchased the Enhanced Autopilot package have the opportunity to upgrade to FSD for just $2,000.

While Tesla's driver assistance features have faced regulator scrutiny over the years, it's important to note that the FSD capability does not render the vehicle fully autonomous. Tesla's website clarifies that these features still require active driver supervision.

Interestingly, Tesla has also put measures in place to ensure buyers truly understand what they're getting into with FSD. The company now mandates that its staff give a demonstration of the FSD technology to prospective buyers before they can finalize their new car purchases.

This price adjustment follows Tesla's recent decision to halve its FSD subscription from $199 per month to $99 per month. Additionally, the automaker has cut the starting prices for their Model Y, X, and S vehicles by $2,000 each. These pricing strategies arise as the company recently reported an 8% decline in vehicle deliveries in Q1 2024, compared to the previous year.

With these changes, Tesla continues to make strides in making its innovative technology more accessible to a broader audience while balancing the scales of market demands.
