The tech world is buzzing with anticipation as Samsung and Google are expected to reveal their latest innovations in the Extended Reality (XR) platform later this year. The two tech giants hinted at a possible launch of new XR-focused devices during the recent Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, where they showcased the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Galaxy Ring.

With the Samsung Developer's Conference (SDC) scheduled for October 3, 2024, it seems likely that we will get more information about the XR hardware during this event. Although no specific details were given on what this hardware might be, it is speculated that it could be a Samsung XR headset or a pair of smart glasses. These devices are expected to be compatible with the latest smartphones, similar to the Xreal Air 2 Ultra, which requires a smartphone to operate.

An early announcement for the Google Pixel 9 event in August, typically scheduled for October, suggests that the company may be clearing up its schedule for a significant reveal of the new XR tech later in the year. This would give the new Pixel 9 room to shine before the latest XR developments take center stage.

The XR platform itself could be Android's response to VisionOS and Meta's HorizonOS. Both companies will need to ensure their hardware and software offerings are exceptional in order to compete with Meta, which has already established itself as a frontrunner in XR operating systems.

As anticipation grows, the pressure is on for Samsung and Google to deliver ground-breaking XR technology. Will they be able to rise to the occasion and offer a new immersive experience for users? Only time will tell.
