Google Pixel users have a vital update awaiting them as the tech giant releases a patch to fix 50 security vulnerabilities, including a severe elevation o privilege (EoP) flaw that could give hackers unauthorized access to smartphone resources.

The Importance of the Security Update

The security update patched a range of bugs with varying levels of severity, with the most concerning being CVE-2024-32896. This particular flaw was given an additional warning from Google due its potential exploitation by bad actors. Google recommends that Pixel users promptly install the update to protect their devices.

How to Install the Update

Downloading the update is straightforward. Pixel users can go to their phone's Settings menu, then to Security & Privacy, and into System & Updates. From there, users can find the Security Update section and start the installation process. Supported devices include the Pixel Fold, Pixel 7 series, and the Pixel 8 line, among others.

Potential Risks for Non-Pixel Android Devices

Third-party Android hardware also seems to be at risk of the EoP vulnerability found by developers at GrapheneOS. However, fixes for these devices may be delayed until the rollout of Android 15, as third-party devices run on different update schedules compared to Pixel smartphones. Android users are advised to stay vigilant and consider additional protection through antivirus apps.
